Magic & Kimonos

All of the ALTs, new and old, were invited to the community centre for a special event, just for us. First we all had to introduce ourselves in front of the Japanese community members (speaking Japanese where we could) and then we were treated to a magic show. It was performed by 4 Japanese women who were very cute and at times had us absolutely scratching our heads and wondering "How did she do that?".

This trick involved cups being tied with different scarves and then a liquid of the same colour was poured into it, all three colours came from the same bottle. What the?

This lady had a Mary Poppins paper bag. She showed us it was empty but them proceeded to pull scarves and plastic boxes, like the one pictured, out of it. This was very clever.

This trick involved a woman sitting on a small seat and then the supporting bi-folded wood was removed from underneath. The lady then thread a hoop over and under the floating seat. This was impressive.

The final act saw this lady spinning multiple spinning plates on top of an umbrella, a fan and then she spun 4 at once. Even little RJ got in on the act. He was so adorable.

Once the magic show came to a close we were invited into a different room which had a table covered in different kimonos. Katie was only too happy to pose in her first casual kimono! The community members were very generous in giving one to each of us as a present! The Japanese community members helped dress us in our kimonos and obis and then we had a fashion parade. It was lots of fun.
